Achieving Success for Wyoming’s Native American Students Initiative

Problem Statement: Native American students in Wyoming have a much higher drop-out rate and have much lower achievement than their non-Native peers. Wyoming recognizes the need to better serve its Native American students.
Purpose: The purpose of the listening sessions is to identify the top priority issues regarding K-12 Indian education in the state. NCCC will provide WDE a summary of general themes that come from the listening sessions. This summary will assist Wyoming in identifying ways to better serve Native American students. In addition, NCCC will assist WDE in gathering resources for the WY Native American history and cultural knowledge subcommittee to evaluate as per state statute that was passed March, 2017.
Priority Area: Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Education
Expected Outcomes:
1. WDE has information to better support Wyoming schools and districts serving Native American students. 2. WDE provides Native American cultural resources to Wyoming school districts
