Supporting the Wyoming ESSA Plan Development

Problem Statement: In December 2015, President of the United States, Barack Obama, signed into law the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and goes into effect in the 2017-18 school year. With the passage of ESSA, each state is required to submit a State Plan. The Wyoming Department of Public Education (WDE) intends to submit their State Plan to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) in January 2017. Wyoming does not have a State Plan that aligns with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements.
Purpose: NCCC will support WDE with continuing to finalize their state plan by September 2017 by engaging educational stakeholders from across Wyoming including tribal representatives; providing resources on tribal consultation and stakeholder engagement; generating a project management plan to ensure timely completion of short and long term goals; co-planning and facilitate meetings; and providing resources on evidence-based practices to update LEA guidance documents.
Priority Area: ESSA Implementation
Expected Outcomes:
1. ESSA formalized into an actionable, goals-based plan to meet the needs of WDE students.
