Support Systems for South Dakota’s Targeted and Comprehensive Schools


Problem Statement: The South Dakota Department of Education (SD DOE) has defined an updated system for supporting targeted and comprehensive schools in their state ESSA plan. This requires updated processes, protocols, and supports for these schools to ensure that they align with the new mandates of ESSA.
Purpose: The NCCC will support the SD DOE with updating their system of support for comprehensive and targeted schools by facilitating an evaluation of existing guidance documents, templates, tools, resources, and roles and responsibilities. We will also consult with the School Turnaround Center and Innovations in Learning to understand other state's processes to inform this work.
Priority Area: Improved culture and political climate
Expected Outcomes:
SD DOE has a cohesive system of support for comprehensive and targeted schools.
